All of these high-contrast products are so unappealing if you have normal adult vision, but of course we're trying to please the younger crowd here -- the very very very young crowd of the newest group of humans. And for them, this works great. However, by the time an infant is sitting up, say, 6 months of age, it is believed that they have decent color vision by that point. So if this is designed for a baby to look through while sitting playing, there's no need for it to be so ugly.
I feel like the book pages are too frenetic and busy and while they perhaps keep baby attention somewhat the numbers are too hard to understand in amidst all the "noise" on the page. But, it's still a good toy as just something to play with. A win here is how they dangle from the side of a crib, which is only helpful if the crib railing is low enough that the baby can reach it, but then we're talking standing. They can be hung on a baby gym though and presented to a sitting baby. Good shower gift.
